Prerequisites
Before starting the installation, please ensure:
Your practice has approval to use the Elemental EMIS integration.
You have the correct admin permissions within EMIS.
Your organisation has received the Elemental Partner API activation instructions.
You have access to the Elemental installation files which can be found within Access Elemental EMIS installation guide.
If any of the above is missing, contact support before continuing.
Getting your practice onboard
To begin the onboarding process:
Confirm your practice details with Elemental.
Ensure the integration is enabled for your organisation.
Verify that your practice’s EMIS Partner API licence has been activated by EMIS.
Make sure any firewall or security settings allow the EMIS Integration Service to run.
Once onboarding is complete, you can proceed to user setup.
Create a user and assign the correct privileges
For the integration to work, a dedicated EMIS user account must be created.
Steps:
Create a new EMIS user specifically for the Elemental integration.
Assign all required privileges, including:
Access to the EMIS Partner API.
Clinical and administrative permissions that allow reading/writing required patient data.
Ensure the user is active and not password‑restricted.
This user acts as the connection between Elemental and EMIS.
Activate the Elemental partner API
Next, you need to turn on the Elemental API within EMIS.
Open the EMIS Partner API settings.
Locate Elemental in your Partner API list.
Activate the API.
Grant access to the dedicated user account you created in the previous step.
This allows Elemental to securely communicate with your EMIS system.
Install the Elemental EMIS integration service
You will now install the integration tool on a local server or approved workstation.
Installation summary:
Run the Elemental EMIS Integration Service installer.
Follow the on‑screen prompts to complete setup.
Enter your API credentials when prompted.
Ensure the service starts successfully and shows as “Running.”
If the service fails to start, see the troubleshooting section below.
Test the integration using a dummy user
Once installed, you must perform a quick integration test.
Testing steps:
Open the Elemental EMIS Integration Service interface.
Log in using your EMIS API test credentials.
Run a test search using a dummy patient.
Confirm EMIS returns valid data.
If the test is successful, your integration is ready for use.
